Phone Interpreter Selection Process

Akorbi Language Consulting incorporates only the most stringent selection process for all its interpretation and translation services, including phone interpreter services. With the goal of delivering the highest quality service possible to each of our clients, we employ the Interpreter Skills Assessment (ISA) which is a scoring system comprised of two areas: an objective assessment and a subjective assessment that utilizes a grading scale with a holistic approach.

Special emphasis is placed on the requirements for our Code of Ethics and HIPAA compliance. It is our philosophy that continual education and training ensures the best possible outcome and success for each of our service areas. Each interpreter is required to complete a minimum of three training sessions per year in order to refresh their basic skills as well as build upon their knowledge of various industries. In addition, we provide a three-week new hire orientation process for all of our interpreters. New hires are also required to job-shadow senior interpreters to further provide them with the most comprehensive learning atmosphere possible.

Our Interpreter Service Delivery I is an 8-hour class session on interpreter skills and procedures. We also offer an Interpreter Service Delivery II class, which also consists of an 8-hour class session involving learning how to interpret culturally sensitive issues, bad news and the best way for dealing with the motions of other parties and a discussion of ethics.

Akorbi further provides a continuing education and development plan. Many of the training curricula are developed in collaboration with external training and teaching experts along with input from our valued customers. This process has been specifically designed to provide our translators and interpreters with the most accurate training possible. Our medical interpretation training was specifically developed by trainers who were trained and educated by the Cross Cultural Health Care Program, a leading medical interpretation training organization located in Seattle, Washington.
